Some Of My Own Work

After feeling inspired Bresson's work I began to capture some images of my own. I began to take images of everyday scenes (like day trips to town or cambridge). 

This then escalated into taking photos of my best friend doing everyday things; capturing him in the act which gives the photo a nostalgic feeling which Bresson also uses in his own work. 

My Pictures:

[Left] I decided to capture my friend Ryan doing some BMX stunts as it was a fascinating thing to watch and as a still image it captures the talent in action ( like Bresson- capturing life as it happens) as well as creating some amazing memories.

[Right] I captured my niece Annabel at the fair as this image captures the childhood innocence and created an essence of Nostalgia; like Bresson.

I took this image whilst my friend was playing guitar. I decided to take this image because it captures him in the act and greats nostalgia. (Like Bresson). 

[Left] I took this image whilst on a dat trip to cambridge. I decided to capture the scenery of the old cobbled road which gives a sense of nostalgia. The civilians caught in the scene give the image a sense of realism as they are frozen at that moment in time.

[Right] My friend Harry actually took this image whilst we were location hunting at an abandoned railway track (for a film project). This image creates memories of out trip but also gives the viewer an enigma as they don't know where the track leads or where we are even going; leaving them to decide for themselves.

This image was one of my first experiments. It captures him in the act; giving the same effect as Bresson.

[Left]: I originally found an image on tumblr of a 50s greaser lighting a cigarette, like Bresson and the New York image it inspired me to re-create that image (with my friend) as it not only captures an everyday human activity but it also linked nicely to Bresson.

[Right]: In this image I tired to create a sense of nostalgia. The vintage back ground, leather jacket and my Rockabilly friend combined make this image feel like it was taken during the 1950s.

I captured this image of my colleague Josh, writing at work. This image is not only an image frozen in time but it alo successfully creates an enigma for the audience as they have no idea what he is writing. Is it a letter? who is it to? - linking it to Bresson's work. 

Cartier- Bresson

When I mentioned my interests to my mentor Simon he suggested that I researched the photographer Cartier- Bresson as his main focus is capturing live moments of people's lives ( in a similar style to my own photography). By researching some of Bresson's work he has become the main stimulus and inspiration for my project.

Some of Bresson's work:

This image caught my eye as it captures the love and affection in the two people's eyes. This photograph not only shows the two people's emotions but by capturing this way it creates a nostalgic feeling to the image. 

I liked this image as it captures the people in the act; a literal image taken from life. The Women's hair and dress represent the 1950/60s giving this photograph the same nostalgic theme as the previous image. 

Like the first image, this too captures the emotion of love and affection through the people's physicality. It creates nostalgia by using the emotion to trigger emotional memories to the viewer. 

This image caught my eye as it not only creates the theme of nostalgia but it also captures childhood innocence in the act. - like the second image it is taken in the act; no one knows whats happened before or after but only at this moment in time.

All of these images have helped to inspire me further to take some images of my own. By using Bresson as my inspiration and stimulus I will enforce the themes of emotion, innocence and nostalgia into my own images. 

Introduction And A Warm Welcome!

Hello!

I am an A-level student currently taking Performing Arts, Film Studies and English. I have a always loved the Arts since a young age and I have always been inspired to try things myself.  I love performing arts Acting, singing these have always been a huge part of my life and recently film and media has also become a huge aspect of my life as I have now found inspiration in film making which lead on to me starting a YouTube channel. 

I have always loved the idea of photography. Through my GCSE years I studied Art where I began to develop my photography skills but due to my A-level options I had to leave it behind.  When I found out about the Gold Arts Award I decided this would be the perfect chance to develop and expand my photography skills and enforce them into my other arts subjects. 

The aspect of photography which inspired me was capturing people in their natural actions / Pictures capturing life how it is. My inspiration for this came from the iconic photograph of the empire state workers by Charles. C. Ebbets.
